DA welcomes arrest of Durban Deep police officers
The Democratic Alliance (DA) welcomes the swift arrest of four police officers involved in yesterday's tragic shooting in Durban Deep during which local resident and DA member, Tshepo Babuseng, was killed.
While these arrests will go some way towards getting justice for Tshepo, his friends, family and the Durban Deep community, it will not bring back a son, a brother and a friend.
Police Minister Riah Phiyega must still account to the public for the use of live ammunition during the protest yesterday.
We cannot allow forgotten communities to suffer such agony because of failure by government to deliver on basic services. The community of Durban Deep and others in Gauteng deserve better.
We also welcome the release of residents of the community that were arrested yesterday and hope that all fairness and just treatment has been given to them during this time.
