DA will safeguard KZN from MK government

Note to Editors: Please find soundbite attached by Democratic Alliance KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Leader, Francois Rodgers.

The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal is encouraged by the results it has achieved in the elections on 29 May 2024.

We are also pleased to see the levels of support across the province for the DA, particularly on a ward level basis which bodes well for the local government elections in 2 years time. Of particular interest was the Msunduzi Municipality where the DA is now larger than the ANC.

We want to thank voters that braved long queues, sometimes for hours, to cast their ballots in support of the DA in KZN.

The DA in KZN would also like to thank the hundreds of public representatives and activists that campaigned relentlessly for the party. Your hard work has paid off in the results that we see.

However, our greatest achievement is that we were able to stop an MK majority in KZN. From our analysis, had it not been for the intensity of our campaign and turnout of DA voters, the MK may very well have gotten a majority in the province.

There can be no doubt that the election results in this province have complicated the political landscape and choices that are before us. The DA KZN’s baseline for these choices will always be to put the people of this province first and to ensure a stable government that avoids a “musical chairs” scenario that we have seen in places like Johannesburg. There is too much at stake to put narrow personal interests before those of the people of KwaZulu-Natal.

The DA in KZN will remain committed to keeping out the MK party and EFF from government. This is a non-negotiable for us and those that voted for the DA.

In our campaign leading up to the elections, we promised the people of this province that we would rescue KZN, and that is what we remain committed to do, especially in the political environment that we now find ourselves in.

The DA in KZN will now use this opportunity to play the crucial and important role of safeguarding democracy and ensuring stability in the province that we all so love. Now more than ever, we must rescue KZN.
