DASO wins NMMU SRC election 2014 - DA Youth

Yusuf Cassim says victory is a rebuke of SASCO's mismanagement of the previous SRC

DASO wins crucial NMMU election

18 September 2014

The Democratic Alliance Student Organisation (DASO) at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU) in Port Elizabeth won the SRC election yesterday. DASO won 12 out of the 21 seats on the SRC. I would like to congratulate them, on behalf of the DA and the DA Youth, on their spectacular victory. They have made us extremely proud. Not only has this made the DA very proud of the DASO achievement, it has also sent a very clear message that both the electorate and the NMMU students are saying no to the ANC and to SASCO governance.

This electoral victory is significant for every student that has been let down by the ANC-aligned SASCO leadership. This victory paves the way for the local election coming up in 2016. The DA is more ready than ever, not to only govern NMMU, but also the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality.

It is evident that the 2013/2014 SASCO governed SRC failed the students of NMMU and has proved that, just like the ANC, they are only interested in serving themselves. Under the leadership of our president elect, Hlomela Bucwa, DASO will bring better governance to NMMU students, as it has done in the past.

We appreciate the faith and trust that NMMU students has placed in our DASO leadership and we will do everything in our power to address and deal with all student challenges on campus. We are excited about the journey ahead and have full confidence in the elected SRC leadership. We have no doubt that a DASO led SRC will make a difference in every student's life on campus in the next year.
