Don't purchase e-tags - SAMWU

Union encourages public to join COSATU stay-away on April 30

Don't purchase e-tags, join SAMWU and COSATU protest action

Municipal workers are ready and willing once again to join our federation COSATU's planned protest action beginning on Wednesday this week - in what is likely to culminate into the mother of all protests on the 30th April 2012.

We will join hands with sister Unions, the general public and civil society calling for an end to e-tolling. We will not back down as this fight is one worth fighting until the end.

Municipal workers will be participating in all the protest actions planned countrywide, especially the Freeway/Toll Road action scheduled for 30th April. We are ready and willing to sacrifice a day's wage for the greater good and we will encourage others to do the same.

Both unionised and non-unionised members of society will be able to take part in the protest action scheduled for this week. COSATU filed a Section 77 notice on 16 April 2012, which will enable all to engage in protected protest action in the form of a national stay-away on the 30 April 2012.

We encourage members of the public not to purchase the e-tags. Join the protest actions and ensure that Government and the ANC listen to the people of this country.

COSATU strongly believes that the pressure of the masses is crucial to forcing government to back down on this blatant extortion. Our aim is to make the tolls uncollectible and force the Government and SANRAL to find more equitable ways to pay for road improvements.

Details of the Protest Activities for this week can be found at www.cosatu.org.za
