DA welcomes end of Tshwane Illegal strike
10 November 2023
The illegal strike that has disrupted the City of Tshwane for several months has finally concluded. All municipal employees are back at work and all municipal services are operational. This marks not only a victory for the DA but also for the residents of Tshwane.
The DA commends mayor Cilliers Brink for his resolute and decisive leadership during the labour crisis. Brink and his administration have sent a clear message that good governance and rule of law will be restored in Tshwane.
Some Tshwane employees taking part in the illegal strikes were fired, salaries were docked, consequence management was implemented – as deemed necessary. We are building a Capital City where residents come first.
The fight to rescue Tshwane is ongoing. The past few months have brought to light a battle that the DA and, more recently, the Multi-Party Coalition have been fighting since the ANC was removed in 2016. While in recent years, the battle hasn’t been as public as it has been over the past several months—with trucks being torched and municipal property being vandalized—there have consistently been individuals within Tshwane subtly and silently sabotaging service delivery.
