Faiek Davids' resignation cause for dismay - Debbie Schafer

DA MP asks whether deputy head was being sidelined in favour of Miseria Nyathi

DA notes with dismay the resignation of Deputy SIU Head Faiek Davids

The DA notes with dismay and concern the resignation of Deputy Head of the Special Investigating Unit (SIU), Faiek Davids.

Although not uncontroversial, it was clear from the recent SIU briefing to the Portfolio Committee, that Davids was pulling things together at the Unit, and that it was a much better place than it has been for the last two years.

He was only reinstated in May this year after being dismissed by Willie Hofmeyr in 2010, and was very upbeat at the Portfolio Committee meeting.

We believe that he is being sidelined by the new SIU Head, Adv Vas Soni, in favour of Miseria Nyathi. If this is true, then it is very concerning indeed.

We shall be conducting some more enquiries in a bid to find out the real reasons, but the initial indications are that our recent optimism about the new head may be misplaced.
