RE: FISH AND CHIPS COMPANY WITHDRAWS CONTROVERSIAL ADVERT
The management of the Fish and Chips Company this morning met the leadership of the South African Communist Party in KwaZulu-Natal at OR Tambo International Airport in which the company pledged to withdraw the controversial advert poking fun at President Jacob Zuma and his family.
The meeting had been requested by the Fish and Chips Company following the SACP's call for the boycott of the Fish and Chips Company products in South Africa.
The leadership of the SACP, led by the party's KZN Provincial Secretary Themba Mthembu, told the management of the Fish and Chips Company why it was disturbed by the advert and called for people to boycott it.
Mthembu told the management that the advert portrayed Zuma as primitive, uneducated, irresponsible with a large family which is being supported by the taxpayer.
The management of the Fish and Chips Company conceded that the advert could have had unintended consequences saying the situation was also compounded by the fact that the ANC will be holding its elective conference in two weeks time.
