Food shortages at Bara Hospital yet again – Jack Bloom

DA MPL says such disasters keep occurring in Gauteng Health Dept because of incompetent and corrupt political appointees

Food shortages at Bara Hospital yet again

3 May 2023

It is hard to believe that the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital is yet again facing food shortages, and doctors are arranging to feed patients.

Gauteng Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko is blaming poor contract management, and a shortage of cold storage capacity, so food cannot be procured in large quantities. Is she only discovering this now?

And why has the hospital CEO not been effective in ensuring reliable food supplies and fixing the cold storage problem?

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi is also mysteriously quiet in this matter.

The hard truth is that disasters keep occurring in the Gauteng Health Department because of incompetent and corrupt political appointees.

Meanwhile, staff and patients suffer when suppliers are not paid in time, and money is siphoned off by crooks.

The DA will continue to push for a complete overhaul of the department’s top management so that honest and effective staff are appointed to clean up the rot.
