Rector of UJ has lost his credibility; AfriForum Youth addresses letter to UJ
The vice chancellor and rector of the University of Johannesburg (UJ), Prof Ihron Rensburg, lost all credibility and threatens the quality of degrees of students and alumni of the university, said AfriForum Youth today in response to the political school that the ANC wants to establish at the Walter Sisulu Leadership Academy. In addition, AfriForum Youth sent a letter to the office of the rector to emphasise students' concerns today.
‘Many alumni have approached AfriForum over the past two days to voice their concerns about UJ's favouritism and the tarnishing of the university's international reputation,' said Charl Oberholzer, national chairperson of AfriForum Youth.
‘Rensburg is taking selfish decisions at the expense of students and alumni's futures. No leader can cultivate loyalty and confidence in an institution while decisions are taken based on politics without student input.'
The letter is a plea from students that no political alliances should be formed with any political party since this is not international practice. Students and alumni should, as the biggest stakeholders, be given an opportunity to give input.
