Illegal eviction of residents by ANC condemned – EFF Limpopo

Fighters say party must find a better solution than eviction given the high rate of unemployment

EFF statement on illegal eviction of resident in Seshego Hostel zone 6

24 July 2024

The EFF condemns in the strongest possible terms the barbaric and heartless actions of the ANC in Polokwane Municipality of evicting residents of Community Residential Units in Seshego hostel zone 6. We are appalled and disgusted by such inhuman act given that Polokwane is already flooded with homeless persons. They must find a better solution than eviction given the high rate of unemployment in the municipality. It is clear that the ANC government is not sensitive to the developmental needs of our people, on the contrary they are working for the demise of communities.

The municipality for some reason is deliberately neglecting their responsibility of addressing the concerns of residents. How do they expect people to pay services when officials have newer physically come to read water meters, they rely on common sense and guess work.

Their billing system is flawed and is only meant to rip our people off. Furthermore, the residents have since requested the municipality to install speed humps similar to those of Ga Rena and yet nothing is happening. What kind of government is this which does not attend to the concerns of communities?

The EFF is opposed to any form of senseless eviction noting that residents are not given alternative accommodation. This type of eviction conducted by Polokwane Municipality must be declared illegal and crime against humanity.

Lastly we condemn the irrational behaviour of law enforcement officers who tried to intimidate EFF Councillor when he demanded clarity and proof of work to be done. Public representatives represent public interests and therefore our Councillor was within his right to demand clarity on what was happening.

We call upon the Polokwane Local Municipality to immediately stop evicting our people from their houses, failure which the EFF will have no option but to take the matter to relevant authorities.
