KZN & WCape: IFP and DA win by-elections – IEC

Commission says IFP gained a seat from ANC, while DA took a seat from KGP

Results of the Municipal By-Elections held on 14 September 2022

During the by-elections contested yesterday in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape, the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and Democratic Alliance (DA) won the by-elections.  

The new IFP councillor is:

- Vincent Sgu Dludla in Ward 12 in uMhlathuze Municipality – KZN282. The party gained the seat from the African National Congress (ANC) who won it in the 2021 Municipal Elections. The total votes cast in favour of the IFP was 54.37% compared to 59.29% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 60.24%.

The new DA councillor is:

- Magrietha Dorothea Jaftha in Ward 4 in Prince Albert Municipality –WC052.  The party gained the seat from the Karoo Gemeenskap Party (KGP) who won it in the 2021 Municipal Elections. The total votes cast in favour of the DA was 50.60% compared to 31.56% in the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 74.90%.
