Results of the Municipal By-elections held on 15 February 2023

During the by-elections contested yesterday in KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape provinces, the Team Sugar South Africa (TSSA), Cederberg First Residents Association (CFRA) and the Democratic Alliance (DA), retained their seats won in the 2021 Municipal Elections and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) won a seat previously won by the ANC.
The new TSSA councillor is
- Sindisiwe Brenda Mashazi, in ward 31, Newcastle Municipality – KZN252, KwaZulu-Natal. The party retained its seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 50,42% of the total votes cast compared to 31.12% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 43,24%
Team Sugar hold W31 (Madadeni R Muiskraal) in Newcastle. Team Sugar 50% (31%) ANC 34% (29%) IFP 10%* (22%) Ind-Shabalala 4% EFF 1% (6%).Poll 43% (43%).*IFP were on the ballot but endorsed Team Sugar. Big win for Team Sugar. IFP &Team Sugar retain mayoral + deputy mayor positions
