Daily Sun (March 26 2015) - FOR YEARS, mentioning the name Senyaka would raise a smile and fans would talk about Chisa Mpama,Moruti Wa Tsotsi, Romeo and Fong Kong.
But now those smiles will be replaced by tears.
SENYAKA KEKANA, MUSICIAN AND ACTOR, IS NO MORE.
Confirming the news of his death to the People's Paper, his close friend and singer, Danny Malewa, better known as Kamazu, said: "He passed away yesterday at 1pm at Kopanong Hospital in Vereeniging. He was sick and had been admitted for the past two weeks."
Kamazu was not clear on what caused Senyaka's death but he had allegedly been diagnosed with pneumonia.
Speaking to Daily Sun, DJ and producer Mahoota said: "I am not okay at all. He was one of the few people in the industry that I was close to. We worked closely together. I got a call on Sunday that he wasn't well and we were planning to go and see him."
Senyaka worked with up-and-coming artist Letlhogonolo Motseeng, known as Tloks Lepara, on a remake of his hit song Chisa Mpama.
Tloks, who could not hold back his tears, told Daily Sun they met in 2013 in East London and they did the song from scratch in November.
"In February, when we shot the music video, he was fine for the first two hours but suddenly became weak and sick. We took him home and shot the last scenes with him at his home," he said.
He said he last spoke to him two weeks ago.
"I was calling him all last week but he did not respond. I was meant to drop off a copy of the music video this week as it is ready.
"I will miss his jokes and professionalism," Tloks said.
Senyaka, whose music career had taken a dive, rose to popularity again last year when he released his last album, titled Ke Kgutlile.
He worked with artists such as Brenda Fassie, Chicco Thwala, Kamazu and Hip-Hop Pantsula.
Senyaka is survived by his two children and lived with his son at home in Orlando West, Soweto.
