IFP wins another seat off ANC in KZN – IEC

ANC retained a seat in Port St Johns, and another in Kou-Kamma

During the by-elections contested yesterday in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal provinces, the African National Congress (ANC) retained two seats won in the 2021 Municipal Elections and the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), won a seat previously held by the ANC.

The new ANC councillors are:

Channon Eugina May, in ward 05, Kou-Kamma Municipality – EC109, Eastern Cape. The party retained its seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 46,24% of the total votes cast, compared to 50,21% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 52,96%.

Patric Nomarhobo, in ward 02 Port ST Johns Municipality – EC154 Eastern Cape. The party retained its seat won in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 72,01% of the total votes cast, compared to 46,16% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 51,67%.

The new IFP councillor is:

Zwakushiwo Michael Zondi, in ward 02, uMvoti Municipality – KZN245, KwaZulu-Natal. The party won a seat previously won by the ANC in the 2021 Municipal Elections, with 53,13% of the total votes cast compared to 47,05% during the 2021 Municipal Elections. Voter turnout yesterday was 50,72%.
