Cope calls for urgent police investigation on ANCYL boss, Julius Malema

News that ANCYL boss Julius Malema has a secret trust fund that is possibly bankrolling his lavish lifestyle is a serious cause for concern.

Cope's Chief Whip in the National Council of Provinces, Mr Dennis Bloem, calls for a special probe by SARS into Malema's lifestyle as the allegation amounts to corruption, and warrant a police investigation.

"The fact that Malema and his lawyers tried unsuccessfully to stop City Press from publishing the story (on Sunday) can only mean there is a lot to hide. His behaviour suggest he is a thug who is quick in attempting to stop those who are willing to expose him as he has for years portrayed himself as untouchable," said Mr. Bloem.

It is disgusting that this is a man who claims to be poor and a champion of the struggle of the poor and working class when he is doing the contrary: spitting in their face.

Mr. Dennis Bloem Cope also calls for a probe into finances of the business men who are found to have deposited money into Malema's trust account.

Mr Bloem says "despite the fact that he always argues that he is not rich, Cope believes its time SARS launch an investigation in Malema as we strongly believe that a sinister motive lies behind his dealings. Malema must also disclose business people and politicians allegedly regularly donating money into his account."

We strongly believe such people must also be investigated and SARS should check if they are doing business with the South African government and if they are paying tax. Police must investigate to what extend did Malema's influence go in terms of the business people securing lucrative government tenders.

We further condemn those who are calling the report by City Press a political ploy, as they want to protect their friends who are involved in shady dealings.

Congress of the People believes it is high time Malema is exposed for the liar he really is.
