ANC STATEMENT ON THE YOUTH BEACH FESTIVAL TO BE HELD IN DURBAN ON FRIDAY

The ANC notes the arranged youth voter mobilisation party scheduled to take place on Durban's New Beach this Friday evening. The African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal wishes to put it on record that this is an initiative of some comrades who are in the entertainment industry who are coordinating it through the assistance of Zikhulise group (see report in The Mercury).

The event is not directly a programme of the ANC but it is an initiative of comrades in the entertainment industry. Many sectors have accepted and embraced the ANC manifesto hence these comrades on their own initiative decided to organise this event.

On the issue of a sponsorship for the party, the comrades secured a sponsorship like any other non-profit organisation would do. The ANC notes a desperate attempt by the Democratic Alliance to create a link between the ANC and the sponsorship of this event.

The ANC wishes to put it on record that anybody who sponsors the ANC does so without any pre-arrangement for material gain thereafter. The claim by the Democratic Alliance is nothing but a desperate electioneering attempt to garner votes ahead of the elections.
