YCLSA disgusted at more Israeli brutality in Gaza in the form of land grabs of Palestinian land
Apartheid Israel has announced one of the largest land grabs of Palestinian land in 30 years by declaring around 3000 hectares near Bethlehem "state land". This latest announcement of more confiscation of Palestinian land aims to link the illegal settlements within the Occupied West Bank grabbing more Palestinian land so as to facilitate future annexation by Israel.
Israel acts with almost complete impunity in the international community. Its greatest friends and allies, Britain and the United States have slammed the announcement of more illegal Israeli settlements but appear to be powerless to stop them. The US government propped up by the enormously rich and powerful Zionist lobby watches as Israel continuously violates international law.
This settlement announcement comes less than a week after a final ceasefire was agreed to by Israel and Hamas which ended 5 bloody weeks of Israeli attacks on the besieged Gaza Strip more than 2000 Palestinians were killed including 500 children by Israeli attacks. Large parts of Gaza have been almost entirely flattened and there are estimates that it will take 20 years for residents to rebuild their homes, businesses, schools and mosques considering the tight restrictions Israel places on economic activity.
We call on our government who fought against illegal land grabs and evictions by the South African apartheid regime to publish guidelines for citizens and businesses to avoid trading with Israeli companies operating in the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Seventeen European Union states published these guidelines last year.
The Young Communist League of South Africa (uFasimba) members were among the thousands of people who took part in the successful National Day of Action against Woolworths this Saturday 30th August 2014. We will continue to call for a complete boycott of Woolworths who imports Israeli products and has trade relations with Israel.
