JOBURG ANC COUNCILLOR OWES RENT TO GAUTENG HEALTH DEPT

Johannesburg ANC Councillor Nokuthula Xaba owes R7283 in rental fees for accommodation to the Gauteng Health Department.

This was disclosed by Gauteng Health MEC Hope Papo yesterday in reply to my questions in the Gauteng Legislature.

Xaba was formerly a nurse with the department but was evicted from the Hospital Street nurses home in November last year. This was after I exposed the fact that she had lived there rent-free since being forced to resign in March 2012 as she had been elected as a city councillor in April 2011.

According to Papo, a letter of demand has been sent to her known address demanding the payment of the outstanding rental fees.

She owes nine months of rent at a rate of R809 per month.

He conduct is utterly disgraceful. Firstly, she had to be forced to resign as a nurse even though elected representatives are not allowed to work for the state. Then she lived rent-free for nine months at the nurses residence, and still refuses to pay her outstanding rent.

The Democratic Alliance will lay a complaint with the Johannesburg council about her unethical conduct.
