Now isn't the time to discuss ANC leadership issues - ANC KZN

PEC also calls on all members to respect party's disciplinary processes

ANC KZN Provincial Executive Committee Statement

The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal held its ordinary Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting on Monday, 26 March 2012 in Newcastle. The meeting received the report of the last two Regional conferences of Moses Mabhida and eThekwini Regions.

The PEC meeting focused on the National Policy preparation to be held in June 2012. The meeting received the report on the state of the organisation and the work the organisation has done in preparation for this Policy Conference. The meeting welcomed the progress made in the convening of Provincial Workshops, which deliberated on policy discussion documents.

In this regard, the meeting consolidated its programme of engaging branches on policy discussion documents and to further engage with all sectors such as Non-Government Organisations, civil societies, Community based organisations and Non-Profit Organisations on policy review. The ANC will reach out to all ordinary members of the community to solicit their views on ANC policy position through cadres for public meetings and branch general meetings.

The meeting took note of the pronouncement made by various ANC Leaders during the ANCYL Centenary Celebration Rally held in Limpopo on the 25th March 2012. The ANC KZN PEC takes a dim-view on the conduct of leaders who continues to speak about disciplinary issues in public.

"We are of a strong belief that some individuals will stop at nothing in undermining the internal organisational principles. Issues of Disciplinary Action are internal matters and should be treated as such."

We commend ANC Deputy President, Kgalema Motlanthe for denouncing the behaviour portrayed by some who have started lobbying for their preferred leaders ahead of the 53rd Mangaung Conference. We are not surprised about the fact that they have started such a campaign even after the NEC has agreed that the issues of leadership should not be discussed. Indeed, this is not the first NEC decision to be undermined by these members. We join the Deputy President in denouncing this foreign behaviour from these opportunists.

We have noted some NEC members, who have become the only ones who are more worried about the outcome of the Disciplinary Committee. We will not succumb to temptations of believing that they view the NDC outcome as hindrance to their personal ambitions. Even in spite of such feelings, there is nothing that permits any ANC member to speak about ANC internal matters in public. We urge members to place the interests of the ANC above theirs as individual members.

The ANC 3rd National General Council mandated the NEC to enforce political and organisational discipline within the movement. Thus this Disciplinary process should be respected by all members.

We continue to observe campaign directed to the ANC senior leadership, in particular the ANC President and Secretary General. This campaign seeks to portray some senior ANC leaders as alternative to these two leaders of our movement. In this regard we wish to affirm the correctness of the NEC decision that leadership issues will be discussed once NEC has opened the process for branches to discuss leadership issues.

We call on members of the organisation to resist provocations by those who openly discussed the leadership issues. Only history will harshly judge those members. The tendency of undermining the ANC President and Secretary General is unbecoming and remains unacceptable. The discipline cadres and real revolutionaries will never portray such foreign conduct.

The PEC reaffirms the ANC commitment on the ANC and NFP working relationship. The PEC unanimously agreed that they still trust the NFP leadership commitments on the working relationship.
