One of Waterkloof 4 in car crash - James Selfe

DA MP says if Reinach Tiedt was under the influence of alcohol this would be reason to revoke his parole

DA receives Waterkloof 4 crash investigation confirmation

30 May 2014

Today I received confirmation from Correctional Services Regional Commissioner of Gauteng, Zach Modise, that his office is co-operating with the police investigation into the Waterkloof Four crash and will be taking "immediate action" pending the investigation's outcome.

It is alleged that earlier this week Waterklooof Four parolee, Reinach Tiedt, was responsible for a car crash in Pretoria which left a woman and her two children seriously injured. Reports suggest that Reidt may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash - which would be a clear parole violation and certainly reason to revoke his (see EWN report).

The infamous Waterkloof Four have been embroiled in one scandal after the other recently, flouting the terms and conditions of their parole. Earlier this year two members of the Waterkloof Four had their parole revoked after video footage of them drinking alcohol and partying in their former prison cell at the Kgosi Mampuru prison surfaced.

Parole is privilege, and those who violate should be brought to account. We will continue to closely monitor this investigation and do everything possible to ensure that this happens.

Statement issued by James Selfe MP, DA Shadow Minister of Correctional Services, May 30 2014
