ANC GAUTENG STATEMENT ON THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE 12TH PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE

4 October 2014

Since Friday, 3 October, the African National Congress in Gauteng has been meeting here at the St. George Hotel under the theme "Unity in action for radical socio economic transformation." The first day of the conference was a resounding success. Delegates to conference displayed a high level of discipline, and unanimously demonstrated unity of purpose and enthusiasm.

Conference was graced by the presence amongst us of the Deputy President of the ANC, Cde Cyril Ramaphosa, the National Officials of the ANC, NEC deployees, invited NEC members, former leaders of Gauteng as well as current and former Chairpersons of other provinces. The presence of veterans and stalwarts of our movement including former leaders of the ANC, alliance structures, leagues and fraternal organisations contributed towards our vision of a successful conference united in action to realize the aspirations of our people in Gauteng.

During Day 1 of the Conference the Political report, the Organizational report and the Treasurer's report were tabled and adopted. Credentials of conference were also presented and unanimously adopted. Matters raised in the various reports were referred to commissions that commenced this morning.

The first day of conference concluded with the election of the Provincial Officials. In the run up to the Conference delegates intensively lobbied each other with a view to elect a leadership that will consolidate unity and take Gauteng forward.

Under the stewardship of the Elections Commission chaired by Comrade Lindiwe Sisulu and NEC deployees to Gauteng, the election of the Officials was unanimous and uncontested. This outcome was a concrete demonstration of the commitment of our branches to unity and cohesion for the benefit of the people of Gauteng as a whole.

The following comrades were elected:

Cde Paul Mashatile was re-elected Chairperson

Cde David Makhura was elected Deputy Chairperson

Cde Hope Papo was elected Secretary

Cde Gwen Ramokgopa was elected Deputy Secretary

Cde Ntombi Mekgwe was re-elected as Treasurer

Today, Day 2 of the Conference, is dedicated to commissions. In the commissions delegates will be seized with the task of engaging various policy proposals to give greater content to our programme of urgent radical social and economic transformation in the following areas:

1. Transformation of the State and Governance

2. Organisational Renewal

3. Radical economic transformation

4. Education

5. Health

6. Human Settlement and Basic Services

7. Peace, Stability and Social Transformation, and lastly

8. Local Government Elections Strategy

The resolutions from these commissions will provide a framework for the four-year term of the PEC. They will also serve to enrich our government programme to build an integrated global city-region characterized by social cohesion and economic inclusion. It is our belief that the conference resolutions will also provide the necessary platform to reposition government in the province, drive transformation and change, and accelerated service delivery.

Consistent with the resolutions of Mangaung and the 2014 Elections Manifesto, our resolutions will be the bedrock upon which we will drive the Imvuselelo campaign in the run-up to the 2016 Local Government elections. From this conference we will emerge with a renewed mandate to provide decisive and focused leadership to both the provincial and local government sphere.

Today we will also be electing 30 additional members of the PEC. We can say confidently that this process will proceed with the same level of discipline as has been displayed by our delegates since yesterday. We wish all those candidates that will be standing for elections success.
