ANC STATEMENT ON THE LIMPOPO PGC
The National Officials of the African National Congress, led by President Zuma, attended the Provincial General Council of the ANC in Limpopo yesterday 24 March 2013, at the University of Limpopo. The Provincial General Council was convened by the ANC NEC Deployees to the province who have taken responsibility of the provincial office since the dissolution of the PEC in the last ANC NEC meeting.
The PGC was attended by branches of the ANC from all the regions, the regional structures, the alliance structures in the province and former leadership of the province. The purpose of the PGC was to present a formal report to the ANC structures of the NEC decision to dissolve the PEC and as well as to introduce the newly appointed Provincial Task Team that will has now resumed leadership role together with the ANC NEC Deployees.
In his address the President presented a full report from the NEC that gave a background to the process leading to the dissolution of the PEC. He also outlined the compelling reasons that led to the decision. He also briefed the PGC on the positive response of the outgone leadership represented by the former Provincial Chairperson Cassel Mathale and former Provincial Secretary Soviet Lekganyane, who on behalf of the dissolved PEC welcomed the decision of the ANC NEC and pledged to support those given the leadership responsibility that will culminate in a provincial conference within 9 months to elect a new PEC.
