Pupils shouldn't have abandoned classes for Malema - SADTU Gauteng

Union also expresses concern at disruption of schooling at Meadowlands High, Cosmo City

SADTU GAUTENG CALLS FOR THE RESTORATION OF TEACHING AND LEARNING

The union is highly disappointed by learners who abandoned classes and joined the demonstrations at Luthuli House in support of the President of the ANCYL comrade Julius Malema. We are also highly concerned about the disruption of schooling at Cosmo City and Meadowlands High schools (see report).

The organization is pursuing and committed to the Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign. We therefore urge all other stakeholders in education to remain committed this revolutionary campaign.

We urge all structures to explore avenues other than the disruption of teaching and learning to resolve challenges facing the institutions more especially in the light of imminent preliminary examinations.

We also particularly urge the Gauteng Department of Education to give the necessary attention to the affected institutions in order to ensure a speedy resolution to the challenges.

Statement issued by Tseliso Ledimo, SADTU Gauteng Provincial Secretary, and Eddie Kekana, Provincial Chairperson, September 1 2011
