Radovan Krejcir to be charged with kidnapping and attempted murder - SAPS

Riah Phiyega says investigations continuing and more arrests may be effected

Mr Krejcir and associate to appear in court on charges of kidnapping and attempted murder

23 November 2013

Pretoria - Following an intensive investigation by a multi-disciplinary team, warrants of arrest were obtained during the course of the week. The police acted on these immediately, which resulted in the arrest of Mr Radovan Krejcir and one of his associates last night. The suspects are currently in police custody.

We have noted the high court order brought by Krejcir's legal representatives and have communicated his whereabouts to them.

"The investigations are continuing, which may lead to more arrests being effected. I wish to take this opportunity to thank the team for the hard work which led to this significant breakthrough," said the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Riah Phiyega.

The team which has been working on this matter consists of members from the Tactical Response Team, Hawks, Crime Intelligence and the Detectives.

The arrests are as a result of an investigation into an incident which occurred in June 2013. A case of kidnapping and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm was reported in the East Rand. Given the severity of the assault, the charge will be amended to attempted murder.

"We are also looking into the possibility of the involvement of members of the South African Police Service. We cannot discuss the merits of the case against the accused at this stage as all the details will be relegated in court. Our role is to ensure that justice prevails," General Phiyega added.
