PAC demand immediate reinstatement of Wits president
The PAC views the removal of the SRC President at Wits as deterioration of student democracy. In past few years, there has been a systemic weaken of structures of the student body, through reduction of budget and amendment of student representation constitutions. The constitutions have move power from the student body to management.
Mcebo Dlamini was elected by students, therefore should be removed by student and not by university management. The PAC put forward that Mcebo was dismissed for his political views on Hitler rather the outcome of the disciplinary hearing. Hence Prof. Habib could not wait for the appeal to conclude its business.
The Wits must be honest that it was responding to pressure from its external stakeholders, who hold different views on Adolf Hitler. The PAC finds this dismissal to be an expression of great intolerance of such a prestigious university. Furthermore, democracy cannot be only good for promote liberal ideas. Democracy should embraced also when it put alternative ideologies.
The PAC call for immediate reinstatement of Dlamini to continue representing the constituency that elected him to office.
