Roodepoort Primary closed again - Gauteng DoE

Dept says ongoing disruptions that have negatively affected the completion of the curriculum by learners

Roodepoort Primary School closed temporarily

16 August 2015

The Roodepoort Primary School in Davidsonville, Roodepoort, will be temporarily closed due to ongoing disruptions that have negatively affected the completion of the curriculum for learners at the school. An analysis of work done by the Department revealed that the work that learners are doing now was supposed to be completed in May.

Following extensive consultation by the MEC Panyaza Lesufi and a visit by Gauteng Premier, David Makhura, a decision has been taken to urgently intervene and move learners to Lufhereng Primary School. “This is a temporary measure to ensure that the education of the learners at the school is not compromised any further”, MEC Lesufi said. The educators from Roodepoort Primary School will also move with the learners to Lufhereng Primary School.

The Premier announced that a task team comprised of religious and community leaders will be appointed to mediate and find a lasting solution to the issues being raised by the community. “The school will be reopened once peace has been restored”, the Premier said.

The Department has arranged transport for learners to go to Lufhereng Primary School.
