Minister Mondli Gungubele reiterates South Africa's resolve to combat acts of terrorism and illicit financing

9 November 2022

The Minister in the Presidency Responsible for State Security, Minister Mondli Gungubele, has today, Wednesday, 09 November 2022, reiterated South Africa's resolve to combat acts of terrorism and illicit financing activities in South Africa.

This comes in the wake of the recent United States Department of Treasury sanction of alleged members of ISIS in the country, who, according to the US Department of Treasury statement, "have provided technical, financial, or material support to the terrorist group (ISIS)"

The South African government has noted the contents of that statement and intends to work with its US counterparts in combating all forms of terrorism and its manifestations.

"We will not allow our territory to be used to fund terrorism in other countries. As such and working with our counterparts in the fight against terrorism,  we will do everything in our power to uncover and root out acts of terrorism and illicit financing in particular" said the Minister.

The Minister concluded by assuring South Africans that the law enforcement agencies remain vigilant and ready to protect citizens and to safeguard the integrity of our Republic.
