SACP STATEMENT ON THE USE OF WATERKLOOF AIR BASE BY THE GUPTAS FAMILY

The SACP is deeply concerned with reports that the Waterkloof Air Base was used for landing of guests invited to a private wedding of the Guptas family.

We regard our National Key Points and access to army air base purely for use of governmental functions and purposes. The SACP regards this as a serious misuse and abuse of reserved government facilities for private purposes. There is no reason in our view that such should have been allowed as it can possibly compromise the security of our country and its sovereignty.

The SACP calls on government to urgently investigate how this happened and for those responsible to be brought to book.
