SACP ECape condems murder of Owen Camagu

Senior PE traffic officer shot dead in hail of bullets outside of his home

SACP Eastern Cape Statement on the killing of Cde Camagu

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape Province condemns with the strongest possible terms the brutal killing of Comrade Owen Camagu in the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality, who was shot dead in his own household on Saturday: 23 June 2012 (see report).

Cde Camagu was a committed and loyal member of the SACP, South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) and African National Congress (ANC). He has been in the forefront of a persistent and fearless fight against corruption in and outside government. We are calling upon the law enforcement agencies to work tirelessly and leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators of this crime are brought to book. We note with great concern that no less than three murders are still not resolved in the Nelson Mandela Region.

On behalf of SACP we wish to convey our sincere message of condolences to the Camagu family for this tragic loss and to the entire congress movement. We commit ourselves to support all efforts to realize a crime free world as a struggle for Cde Camagu.

Statement issued by Siyabonga Mdodi, SACP Eastern Cape provincial Spokesperson, June 27 2012
