DA meets with SAPS over incitement charges against Jackie Shandu, provides further evidence
30 July 2021
The Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal has today met with senior SAPS management over the incitement to commit violence by Jackie Shandu, former EFF member. We have also handed over a dossier of information at the Durban Central Police Station to assist and build on the case that SAPS are investigating.
We have been briefed by SAPS that this case has been handed over to specialised police officers to receive priority attention.
This after a video of Shandu has been widely circulated on social media, chanting racist slogans and inciting attacks on Indians, on the steps of the City Hall in eThekwini.
This type of irresponsible behaviour, mobilising communities on race, is deplorable and the DA condemns this in the strongest terms. It cannot be that at a time when the province is recovering from death and destruction that certain individuals take to the streets to incite violence and hatred. Society does not need these types of people.
