Selebi's parole scandalous - Pieter Groenewald

FF+ MP asks why former police chief is let out while an equally ill Clive Derby Lewis remains in jail

Selebi's parole scandalous

"The awarding of medical parole to Jackie Selebi is scandalous and undermines the criminal justice system in South Africa. The message is that if one has the correct political connections, one can commit crime and if you are sent to jail it will only be temporarily because there will be a loop-hole to be let out early on parole. Selebi is now the third case following Schabir Shaik and Tony Yengeni who as ANC members are enjoying special preferences with regards to receiving parole.

This is in opposition to Clive Derby-Lewis who is really ill and is suffering from cancer but is not receiving medical parole. It is yet another blotch on Correctional Services' name and makes medical parole a farce," Mr. Pieter Groenewald, the FF Plus' chief spokesperson on Correctional Services says.
