The EFF in Tshwane condemns Kalafong Hospital for shocking childbirth mismanagement

5 June 2024

The EFF Tshwane is horrified by the recent events surrounding Olga Kgosana's childbirth at Kalafong Hospital. The shocking mishandling and swapping of newborn babies by hospital staff have brought to light the gross negligence and corruption prevalent within our public healthcare institutions.

The EFF Tshwane condemns in the strongest possible terms the egregious misconduct and deception suffered by Olga Kgosana and her family at the hands of Kalafong Hospital. The callous act of changing newborn babies without consent is a violation of the most basic human rights and reflects a complete disregard for the sanctity of life.

We stand in unwavering support of Olga Kgosana and her family during this distressing ordeal, and we demand immediate accountability from Kalafong Hospital for their unacceptable actions. It is imperative that a thorough and transparent investigation be launched to identify those responsible and ensure that justice is served.

The flagrant disregard for the well-being of both mother and child is a stark reminder of the pervasive corruption that plagues our healthcare system. The EFF Tshwane will pursue an independent paternity test to confirm the true identity of the newborn child, as we refuse to place trust in institutions that have shown such blatant incompetence and malpractice.

This incident underscores the urgent need for comprehensive reforms within our public healthcare sector to guarantee the safety, dignity, and rights of all patients. We call upon the relevant authorities to take swift and decisive action to eradicate corruption and negligence within Kalafong Hospital and all public institutions, to prevent such heinous violations from ever occurring again.

The EFF Tshwane will not rest until justice is served, and we will continue to fight tirelessly for the rights and dignity of all South Africans. Accountability, transparency, and respect for human life must be upheld at all costs — no individual should ever have to endure such a traumatic experience at the hands of those entrusted with their care.
