Sifiso Khumalo pleads guilty to Dumisani Malunga's murder - ANC KZN

Party says Oshabeni ANCYL leader arranged for hit man to take out ANC councillor

ANC CALLS FOR HARSH SENTENCE AGAINST KILLER

The African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal calls for a harsh sentence against Sifiso Khumalo whom today (17 September 2012), pleaded guilty to the murder of Dumisani Malunga, an ANC Chairperson at Oshabeni Branch on the South Coast recently (see report).

Khumalo pleaded guilty in the Pietermaritzburg High Court today (17 September 2012) and he will be sentenced tomorrow (18 September 2012) in the same court.

Malunga and Bheki Chiliza were killed after returning from our organisation's meeting.  According to a statement by Khumalo for his guilty plea, he and his co-accused Samuel Cele had arranged for a hit man to kill Malunga.

Khumalo has pleaded not guilty to Chiliza's murder and Cele, who pleaded not guilty to both charges, will appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate's court again on September 19.

"We congratulate the swift work of the police in arresting and getting a guilty plea out of Khumalo. We strongly believe that the sentence that the court will give tomorrow should serve as a deterrent to other perpetrators. We believe that the sentence will be a true victory for all peace loving South Africans," said ANC Provincial Spokesperson, Senzo Mkhize.

The ANC deplores the killing of our comrades and we call on ANC leaders and members to unite against killers.
