Sowetan headline slanderous and untruthful - ANC Limpopo

Party says Premier Mathale did not dare President Zuma to have him arrested

ANC Limpopo Rejects Duplicitous Sowetan Headline in the Paper's 6 January 2012 Edition

Friday, 6 January, 2012

The ANC Limpopo rejects the deceptive and libellous article published by Sowetan today entitled: "Mathale Dares Zuma: Arrest Me" (see here). The headline is followed by a sub-heading reading: "Defiant Limpopo Premier Lashed Out As Mangaung Fever Hots Up"

The headline is slanderous and completely untruthful. Nowhere in the article in question does the ANC leader in the Limpopo government even remotely mention the name of the ANC President nor does he insinuate or make any inference to our National leader in the ANC and government136.

We believe the Sowetan has an ‘unclarified' agenda against the ANC Leadership in Limpopo. However, we also believe that Sowetan, as a respectable daily newspaper in the country, should begin to rise above petty political games. They should adhere to their industry's ethics and codes of practice and stop using opportunistic stunts and grand-standing to stimulate their newspaper sales.

Further we believe that their actions have divisive intentions and the ANC does not welcome this attitude from the Sowetan newspaper.

Statement issued by ANC Limpopo Provincial Spokesperson, Cde. Makonde Mathivha, January 6 2012
