The ANCWL statement on the alleged gender stereotype, sexist, derogatory utterances by Herman Mashaba

The African National Congress Women's League (ANCWL) is disturbed by the alleged gender stereotype, sexist derogatory comments from DA-EFF coalition Mayor of City of Johannesburg (CoJ) that “the women who are senior executives in the CoJ prostituted themselves to be in the jobs they are in. And that for them to earn the positions that they are in they had to sleep with the leadership."  

During his campaigns, Herman Mashaba said on public television that “the poor can’t lead they are a disaster” and now this anti-BBBEE Mayor of CoJ is allegedly labelling all women who are in senior executives positions in CoJ as sex workers who were paid by executive positions. As the ANCWL we condemn these kind of views which purports women as incompetent, unqualified and having to rely only sexual encounters to advance in the careers. Such views are peddled by those who view women as nothing else but sex objects who  utilize sex as a tool to gain employment in particular executive positions. 

The ANCWL calls all progressive political parties in the Council of CoJ, who value women as equal citizens of this country to pass a vote of no confidence to this product of coalition government. It will be embarrassing for political parties in the Council of CoJ to allow the City  to be led by a person who views women as nothing else but sex traders in exchange for positions. Supporting for his stay as a Mayor is a direct support to gender stereotype. Supporting his stay as a Mayor will be a direct promotion of oppression to women and support to the views that women are just tools for sexual exploitation in exchange of positions.

Furthermore we all the residents of CoJ to support all women who are to be purged by the anti-women success Mayor.
