Unseating of the kleptocratic ANC in NMB a step in the right direction for Project 2024

ActionSA Eastern Cape Provincial Chairperson Athol Trollip congratulates the new coalition government that is led by new Mayor Retief Odendaal.

This is an example of how quickly change can happen. Those parties that decided to side with the ANC last year came to their senses and realised that their supporters would punish them for aligning with the kleptocratic ANC.

Having seen first-hand the havoc wreaked on the Metro by the ANC in NMB when I became Executive Mayor by unseating the ANC in 2016, I am confident that the residents will begin to see better service delivery.

This period of coalition might be fraught with challenges as the partners learn to cooperate and collaborate in the interest of good governance, but this is better than any ANC-led government which has proven itself to be unreliable for decades.

The new Mayor, Retief Odendaal is a competent representative who showed that his financial management skills could put Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on a new plane to prosperity. ActionSA is committed to cooperating with any coalition government that is focused on good governance and service delivery.

ActionSA in the Eastern Cape wishes the new coalition in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality all the very best in the interest of the residents of the city. If we were represented in this Council, we would have had no reservations about participating in this coalition.
