DA: MCHUNU, MPP - DA QUESTION KZN PREMIER'S MOTIVES AS HE FAILES TO SUSPEND MABUYAKHULU/NKONYENI
THE Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu-Natal has raised its concern over what it termed the Premier's apparent unwillingness to take a strong stand against two prominent provincial cabinet members, due to be arrested on charges relating to fraud and corruption.
DA KZN Leader, Sizwe Mchunu, today expressed concern over the "deafening silence" from the Premier himself following earlier calls by the DA for KZN Economic Development MEC, Mike Mabuyakhulu and provincial speaker, Peggy Nkonyeni to be suspended. "Given the serious nature of the charges against the pair, we expected the Premier to take a strong stand.
We are deeply concerned by his apparent unwillingness to act. This is aggravated by recent media reports which claim that the Premier's signature appears on documents relating to the purchase of Inthaka purification systems. Given this, the DA must now question the motive for his reluctance to suspend Mabuyakhulu and Nkonyeni."
Mchunu has called upon judicial entities, including law enforcement agencies, to act swiftly in concluding the arrests of parties believed to have benefitted fraudulently from the Inthaka deal. "The sooner this is done, the better."
