ActionSA writes to Joburg Public Safety MMC to answer for why coloured applicants weren’t considered for appointment
29 September 2023
ActionSA has written to the City of Johannesburg Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC), Dr Mgcini Tshwaku, to urgently respond to allegations that coloured Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) traffic wardens were not considered for permanent appointment on the basis of their race.
As a party which stands for non-racialism, ActionSA is deeply concerned about a video making the rounds on social media where an EPWP traffic warden alleged she was told by the Acting Chief of Police that she wouldn’t be considered for permanent appointment due to her skin colour.
This is in direct contradiction of the values of the South African Constitution which advocates for a non-racial South Africa where everyone has equal access to opportunities. ActionSA stands vehemently opposed to any attempt that seeks to diminish non-racialism in South Africa.
We are therefore asking that MMC Tshwaku urgently respond to these allegations and inform the general public why a move was possibly made to exclude coloured applicants from this process.
