World Festival of Youth a massive waste of money - FF+

Wouter Wessels says NYDA executive management should be dismissed

BOYCOTT NYDA'S WORLD FESTIVAL - FF PLUS YOUTH DEMANDS MEETING WITH MINISTER CHABANE

"The FF Plus Youth encourages all youth to boycott the World Festival of Youth and Students that is being organised by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA)," said Wouter Wessels, FF Plus Youth spokesperson.

The Presidency has given R29 million for the hosting of this event, that is to take place from the 13th to the 21st of December 2010 at Nasrec.

"The FF Plus Youth believes that the NYDA can and should play an important role in South Africa , but the organisation is currently only wasting taxpayer's money and does not play a sensible developmental role. Taking into account the high level of poverty and unemployment in South Africa it is clear that the priorities of this organisation is totally wrong and that is why we as youth should rise up against this wasting of money and the incompetence of the NYDA's executive management," Wessels said.

The FF Plus Youth demands the dismissal of the executive management (the Chairperson, Deputy-chairperson and Chief Executive Officer) of the NYDA.  "The NYDA obtains their mandate in terms of Act 54 of 2008 and is at present not executing this mandate - the FF Plus therefore demands the Presidency's intervention," Wessels said.

The FF Plus will today launch a full scale internet campaign against this World Festival.  "It is of public interest that the broader community is aware of the real needs of the South African youth as opposed to the wasting of millions of rand by the government and specifically the NYDA," Wessels said.

The FF Plus will direct an urgent letter to minister Colin Chabane, the minister in the Presidency, who is responsible for the NYDA, to arrange a meeting with regard to the dysfunctional NYDA.
