YCL cancels trips to Marikana

League says postponement will give parties space to calm the situation

YCLSA cancelled trip to Lonmin Marikana

The Young Communist League of South Africa [uFasimba] intended to visit the Lonmin Marikana mine and community on Sunday, 19 August 2012. The objective of the visit was for the YCLSA to show support to the families of the bereaved and visit the injured following the Thursday Tragedy.

Following interaction with all parties involved in the negotiations, the YCLSA decided to postpone its visit to enable the party's space to work towards calming the situation in the Marikana area. It was resolved that the YCLSA will accompany other members of the alliance to Marikana at a later stage.

The YCSA appeals to society to refrain from finger pointing. "We condemn those who, instead of helping to calm the situation, used the tragedy as platform for cheap politicking and incitement", said Yershen Pillay, National Chairperson of the YCLSA.

The YCLSA will announce is due course details of the intended visit to the Marikana mine.
