The Democratic Alliance has retained control of the Western Cape in the 2014 provincial elections winning 59,4% of the vote. The African National Congress came in second with 32,9% of the vote, followed by the Economic Freedom Fighters with 2,11%. The DA did slightly better on the provincial ballot in the Western Cape than it did on the national one, and the ANC slightly worse.
In the 2009 elections the DA won the province with 1 012 568 votes (51,46%), followed by the ANC with 620 918 votes (31,55%), COPE with 152 346 votes (7,74%), the ID with 92 116 votes (4,68%), and the ACDP with 28,995 votes (1,47%). The ID subsequently merged into the DA. The combined number of votes received by the DA and ID in 2009 was 1 104 684 (56.1%) (see here).
