After all, she had been Guilty Sekome’s wife for many years.
BUT THEN A PICTURE ON FACEBOOK REVEALED A TERRIBLE SECRET.
The family found out that not only had she been divorced from her husband for seven years, she was already happily married to another man . . . and the picture of the smiling bride in her white wedding dress proved it.
Guilty Sekome (42) was a cop at Joburg Central Police Station when he died in a car accident near Southgate on 29 August. Pinky Sekome, Guilty’s widow, notified the family and immediately played the role of a hurting widow. She even held a meeting with the family and started organising the funeral. According to Doris Sekome, Guilty’s sister, they discovered Pinky had been married on 15 December and Pinky’s daughter had posted a picture of the wedding.
The family found out she was married to an SANDF employee who is often out of the country. “We knew Guilty and Pinky had problems and had separated but didn’t know she had married again,” said Doris. “When Guilty died she acted all innocent and threatened us with court. We had to wait two weeks for my brother to be buried,” Doris said. “Even at the memorial service she fled when my brother’s colleagues started telling the truth.”
She said Pinky claimed the money from the funeral policies and even claimed the house he bought in Naturena in 2010. Nthabiseng Matsoso, the dead cop’s lover, told Daily Sun she moved in with Guilty to his house in Naturena in 2012.
“Pinky threw me out of the house. It’s a blessing his family is on my side,” she said.
Pinky told Daily Sun on the phone that everything was for her children. She said she didn’t know what would happen to Tshegofatso (22), Guilty’s son. “I’ll secure what belongs to my children,” she said.
At first she denied claiming the funeral policies but later admitted she got about R56 000. “That’s the money I got as a beneficiary. It is for my children,” she said. She agreed she claimed the Naturena house too. “We bought it together and my children want to stay there,” she claimed.
The family lawyer, Oupa Matlakala said they won the first battle as Guilty was buried by his rightful family. “We are going to expose her for the fraudster she is,” he said. “All his money will go to his rightful children.” The family showed Daily Sun original documents of marriage certificates, decree of divorce and the funeral policy certificates.
