BOSA to ensure new govt delivers

Party says National Executive should work for the 60m South Africans, not for themselves

BOSA will use Parliament to ensure new government delivers for all 60 million South Africans, not their own interests

30 June 2024

Tonight’s announcement of the National Executive by President Cyril Ramaphosa confirms a national coalition between the ANC and the DA, which was on the cards from as early as 2021 despite assurances to the contrary by both parties.

Build One South Africa (BOSA) has for the past two weeks been advocating against an ANC-DA coalition in favour of an actual Government of National Unity (GNU) which includes as many parties as possible.

We appealed to Mr Ramaphosa to establish a National Convention – comprising all 18 Parliamentary Parties – to decide on a new government that represents the interests of all 60 million South Africans.

That being said, the President and his party chose this course of action. We wish the new government well in their work. BOSA will take up our role in Parliament to pursue an agenda that prioritizes the following:

-        Constitutionalism and the Rule of Law

-        Justice and redress

-        A mixed economy that creates jobs

-        Zero tolerance for corruption

-        Reforming education

-        Eradicating crime

This is now one of the largest National Executive's we've seen in democratic South Africa. BOSA is firmly opposed to extending patronage using cabinet positions We are clear in our belief that the following perks limited and/or removed:

-        Blue light brigades;

-        VIP security detail;

-         Million-rand luxury cars;

-        Business class flights;

-        Travel and catering benefits;

-        Free ministerial houses with generators to insulate ministers from loadshedding.

BOSA’s role in Parliament for the next five years is one we do not take lightly. Our organisation is young and holds infinite potential for growth in the coming years. Ultimately, our focus is to build structures ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections and the 2029 National and Provincial Elections.

We are in it for the long haul, and we invite you to journey with us as South Africa continues along its trajectory of change.
