ANC welcomes the clarity by the President on the promise made in Alexandra

The African National Congress (ANC) welcomes the thorough clarification provided by President Cyril Ramaphosa in Parliament on the ongoing commitment to South Africans regarding the provision of houses made in Alexandra in 2019. The President reaffirmed the government's dedication to addressing the historical challenges faced by our people, including the promise made to enhance their living conditions and infrastructure.
In his address, President Ramaphosa highlighted the substantial progress that has been made over the years, including significant investments in housing, sanitation, and essential services. He emphasized that the government's efforts are part of a broader strategy to uplift all communities historically marginalized by apartheid policies. The President reiterated that while challenges remain, the ANC-led Government of National Unity is unwavering in its commitment to ensuring that South Africans, including the people of Alexandra, enjoy the benefits of a better life.
The ANC strongly condemns the deliberate misrepresentation of the President's statements by certain opposition parties. Over the years, these parties have engaged in a cynical and misleading campaign to distort the ANC President's remarks in Alexandra, seeking to score cheap political points at the expense of the truth. The ANC urges the public to be vigilant against such tactics and to recognize them for what they are: an attempt to sow division and undermine the hard work being done to improve the lives of all South Africans.
We also dismiss with contempt the irresponsible behaviour of some radio hosts who, rather than providing the public with accurate information, choose to play to the gallery by spreading fake news and deliberate misinformation. These individuals do a disservice to their listeners and to the broader public discourse by peddling falsehoods that create confusion and mistrust.
We will continue to work tirelessly to fulfil our obligations to the people of Alexandra and to all South Africans.
