DA WCape PL says PA leader must abide by the high court ruling and urgently account for the monies in question

Court rules Gayton must come clean about Beaufort-money

4 June 2024

PA president, Gayton McKenzie, will soon learn that corruption does not pay off.

The DA welcomes the Western Cape High Court’s ruling that PA president, Gayton McKenzie, must account for the funds he raised at an event in Sandton in his capacity as mayor of the Central Karoo District Municipality.

McKenzie promised that these funds are earmarked for improving service delivery and improving the lives of residents, but he resigned as mayor soon afterwards, leaving residents in the lurch.

This is why Beaufort West voters punished McKenzie at the polls last week, clearly showing him that his time is up. If the 2024 elections were a local election, the DA would have won an outright majority in Beaufort West, with a clear mandate to rescue the municipality.

The DA demands that McKenzie and the PA abide by the high court ruling and urgently account for the monies in question.
