Turning a blind eye on lawlessness is dangerous
The SACP in Mpumalanga Province has noted with concern the alleged stolen Krugerrands worth R5 million and R30,000 cash from the house of agriculture, rural development and administration MEC, Andries Gamede, who is also ANC Mpumalanga Provincial Treasurer. The SACP condemns all criminal activities and calls for a thoroughgoing investigation into the crime. The investigation must include whether the alleged stolen assets did indeed exist; if yes, their origins and justification why the MEC stashed so much money in his house, which is itself suspicious activity, must be investigated too.
In the recent past, there had been instances in the province where high profile politicians were being accused of having millions of money in their homes and this was associated with the dirty monies used to buy votes and stifle internal organisational processes in our movement. But there were no legal consequences from the law enforcement agencies.
Let no one forget that Mpumalanga is a province where political activists have been killed with no legal and law enforcement consequences to the perpetrators of the crimes. Turning a blind eye on crime and corruption is very dangerous and must stop – it may itself be an act of crime and corruption!
