We're on course for overwhelming victory in KZN - ANC KZN

ANC ON COURSE FOR OVERWHELMING VICTORY IN KZN

8 May 2014

The African National Congress in KwaZulu-Natal is pleased with the preliminary election results which indicate that our organisation is heading for an overwhelming victory in the province where it only took charge of the provincial government ten years ago.

The people of the province have once again rewarded the ANC's commitment and dedication to bringing service delivery into every part of the province since 2004. The ANC applauds the generally peaceful elections in a province which, not so long ago, was a hotbed of intimidation and violence which sometimes hindered the ANC to campaign freely.

Some cancers, however, remain, including isolated incidents of intimidation of our supporters and, of course, the brutal murder of our comrade in KwaDukuza and numerous other assaults directed at our supporters elsewhere in the province. All these incidents have been reported to the police and we urge the law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to book.

The ANC in KZN is determined to use the mandate it has received from the electorate in 2014 to speed up service delivery across the province in line with its broad development and transformation agenda.

We will repay the popular trust we have received in these elections by maximising our efforts in job creation, poverty alleviation and addressing the persistent inequality which continues to frustrate our people's aspirations.

We are humbled by the support we have received during the elections and we would like to extend our greatest appreciation to all those who went out to vote for the ANC in their big numbers.
