(INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER NO 11- 2011)

Date reply submitted: 24 May 2011

1168. Mr P J Groenewald (FF Plus) to ask the Minister of Police:

(1) What progress has been made with the investigation into a certain complaint (details furnished) that was lodged with the Commercial Crime Unit at Klerksdorp;

(2) whether he will make a statement on the matter?

NW1291E

REPLY:

(1) The matter is being investigated by the Commercial Crime Unit: Klerksdorp Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation.

It is alleged that the employer of the complainant, Aurora Empowerment Systems (Aurora Mine) was making monthly deductions from employees in respect of personal income tax, union membership fees and pension fund contributions, which were not paid over to the relevant parties (South African Revenue Service, the unions and pension fund).

Both the Financial Services Board (FSB) and SARS have been engaged and their reports are awaited as they are crucial for the criminal investigation.

(2) No because the investigation is ongoing.
